
MARY CHARLES RAMSEY
Mary Charles is an award-winning writer and director with a passion for Southern Gothic storytelling and a focus on the inner lives and struggles of rural women. Deeply inspired by the haunting beauty and quiet tension of the American South, her work is grounded in character-driven narratives that explore complex emotional landscapes and a focus on lives often overlooked.
Her short film The Chair at the Edge of the Woods received the Hoka Award for Best Mississippi Short Narrative at the Oxford Film Festival, marking a significant milestone in her emerging career. Her screenplays and films have gone on to place in over 30 film festivals. In 2024, she launched Bodock Productions, a company focused on creating films and documentaries rooted in thoughtful Southern storytelling.
A graduate of the University of North Alabama, she earned her B.S. in Cinematic Arts in 2019. While at UNA, she collaborated on more than 50 student films in various roles, gaining hands-on experience at every stage of production. In 2025, she will begin her MFA in Film at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, continuing to hone her craft and expand her artistic reach.
